Notes:

i.    And the price of crude oil is at 72.85 dollars a barrel today. NYMEX.
ii.   The avg price of gas in the Santa Cruz area is 3.50, down 12 cents from about a week ago. AAA

iii.   The cost of U.S. War and occupation in Iraq is around about 563,036,000,000 for the country, while it has cost Santa Cruz county nearly 713.1 million for total Iraq war. National Priorities

With that money we could have..
266,560 Children with Health Care for One Year OR
85,298 Head Start Places for Children for One Year OR
10,242 Elementary School Teachers for One Year OR
9,007 Port Container Inspectors for One year

iv.    The number of Iraqis slaughtered in Iraq is estimated to be at about 1,273,378
v.    The number of U.S. Soldiers killed is now at 4185. 40 injuries in September, 107 in august and 156 in july. This of course does not include suicides.
vi.    Of course we have to address army suicides, which are on a pace to become an all time high. The record was set in 2007 when there were 115 suicides. The Army says there have been 62 confirmed suicides by active duty members in 2008, with 31 unconfirmed cases that appear to be suicides.

(side note: we may begin to refer to Iraq Body Count, rather, although just foreign policy did a great job explaining how they came up with the number. I have decided to go with the other, as they site news sources. Not 100 percent on either. If you have feedback, please comment.)

Closing Piece:

There are times, however, and this is one of them, when even being right feels wrong. What do you say, for instance, about a generation that has been taught that rain is poison and sex is death? If making love might be fatal and if a cool spring breeze on any summer afternoon can turn a crystal blue lake into a puddle of black poison right in front of your eyes, there is not much left except TV and relentless masturbation. It’s a strange world. Some people get rich and others eat shit and die. Who knows? If there is in fact, a heaven and a hell, all we know for sure is that hell will be a viciously overcrowded version of Phoenix — a clean well lighted place full of sunshine and bromides and fast cars where almost everybody seems vaguely happy, except those who know in their hearts what is missing… And being driven slowly and quietly into the kind of terminal craziness that comes with finally understanding that the one thing you want is not there. Missing. Back-ordered. No tengo. Vaya con dios. Grow up! Small is better. Take what you can get…
