While we are talking about international issues, I have to mention what happened in Peru, and how the U.S. funded it. Basically, this week it came out that in Peru there was a massacre earlier this month, as Peru national forces bore down on indigenous protesters who were trying to prevent their land from being sold to resource companies. They argue that, while they do not own the land on paper, they have lived there for quite a long time, and it is understood that it is their land. What is truly interesting is that the weapons used by the government forces were bought, or provided by the U.S. through their effort to battle the drug war. We have spoken about this before on this show regarding the ridiculous situation in Bolivia, Peru, and Colombia that is the drug war, if you want to hear that, it is on our website, under Marco Vernaschi. According to very reputable reporter for Narco News, Kristen Bricker, the police fired tear gas and live ammunition from police helicopters. It has been U.S. dollars that have maintained them for 2 years.
“In 2004, the US government provided “funding for pilots, aircrews, and support personnel for 15 USG-owned UH-1H helicopters and 14 Peruvian Mi-17 helicopters,” the latter being the same type of helicopter used in the Bagua massacre. Given that US foreign aid can be delayed for several years before it arrives in the recipient country, it is within the realm of possibility that the US government funded the pilots and crew that were in the Mi-17s that were allegedly used to murder indigenous Peruvians in Bagua.”
“The U.S. has also donated 24 armed Huey II helicopters. These helicopters came with a combination of M6 flexible quad M60 7.62mm machine guns, and two seven tube 2.75 inch MK40 rocket launchers.”
Once again, that was from Kristen Bricker for Narco News Bulletin. The link is posted on our website…
The reason that I bring this up now is because of the news coverage that has gone on today. While this and other issues frequent others realm of reality, Anderson cooper is doing an hour on Michael Jackson. Not only is this ridiculous, but it is insulting, and While I recognize that he has had a huge cultural and musical influence, I couldn’t help but cringe every time someone said to me today… Oh my god! Did you hear Michael Jackson died?
Yes… yes I did, and I certainly do not care.
To end this, let me exit with a quote by Richard Nixon from the recently released Nixon tapes…
“There are times when an abortion is necessary. I know that. When you have a black and a white. Or a rape.”
